''NFF narrows Eagles coaching choice to Le Guen''

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has resolved not to rush the process of appointing a new manager for  Super Eagles ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers. The soccer federation appears however to have narrowed her choice to Frenchman Le Guen.
A member of the NFF technical committee, Paul Bassey said yesterday that rushing the process of hiring a new coach would amount to pressing the panic button and doing the wrong thing.
“We wont say we have to name a coach today simply because Algeria has named one. We are going to stick to our plans of vetting the applications before us
and inviting the qualified coaches for an interview where the very best would be picked,” Bassey said.
He added that the NFF executive committee could however opt for what he called “the head hunt option” by inviting and interviewing just one or two of the coaches that have applied for the job.
“Which ever way, we need to be thorough to ensure we don’t make mistakes ahead of the World Cup qualifiers because qualifying for Russia 2018 is a must for the Eagles no matter how tough the group may be.”
Another competent NFF source however disclosed to Daily Sunsports that the soccer federation has jettisoned her earlier plan of hiring a Serbian coach.
“From all indications, we would settle for Frenchman Le Guen, if we decide to give the job to a foreign coach,” our source said.
The Serbian duo of Alexandra Rogic and Goran Stepanovic had before now emerged as leading contenders for the job.  It would be noted that Le Guen was recommended by former Arsenal Vice-Chairman David Dein to the NFF. We further gathered that Le Guen would earn €44,000 a month, if given the job.
Our source stressed that Le Guen is now being favoured against the backdrop of the group Nigeria has been drawn into in the Russia 2018 race.
“Le Guen is most likely to be hired because of the countries we got in the World Cup draw. We are looking at it from a technical stand point. Both Algeria and Cameroon are countries a Frenchman can handle easily, given their brand of football.”
Le Guen qualified Cameroon for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where the country crashed out in the first round.
