Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has
urged parents to learn to accept their children notwithstanding their
challenges, saying no child is ‘unteachable.’
The Almighty, according to Obasanjo, never created any being that is of no importance to
humanity.
He, therefore, urged parents not to abandon or disregard their challenged children.
The former President stated this at
Idimu, Lagos, while inaugurating a facility at the Do-Est-Dot
International School, an institution for challenged pupils.
He said, “There is nobody created by God
that is not important. Nobody is un-teachable. In history, some of
those that have made significant inventions in humanity are men and
women, who people ordinarily will write off because of their
disabilities.
“However, none of us is complete. We all
have one disability or another. I therefore appeal to parents whose
children have one form of disability or another not to disregard or
abandon them.
“Disability is not a curse. It is a
challenge and when you face it, you will always have a way of
surmounting it. We are no better individuals than these challenged ones.
God created all of us in His image.”
The former President, who described the
occasion as unique, particularly hailed the proprietress of the school,
Mrs. Esther Ogunbayo, for her commitment to attending to the needs of
challenged children and their parents.
